Hair Raising
Sometimes I use a good name to lead the viewer to a conclusion. This painting is a dance of two personalities. The hair is flying free, the women are happy. Is it mom and daughter? Is is grandmother and daughter? Is it mates? Or is it two friends? Really, the androgynous artworks are for you to decide. I often use different shades of black to represent power. This black in the artwork, is called Pavement Black, it has a softness to it because it is a faded black. The two ladi

Anoki
Anoki in Blackfoot means “Actor”. Anoki, Blackfoot cat artwork by Cecile Grace Charles This artwork is Blackfoot Theme, it is one of a Bakers Dozen (13) of Native American Themed Cat Artworks. Each one taking on the persona of a specific action. No I did not say tribe or culture. In this case Anoki is dressed as a dancer. We know cats cannot dance in the same way as humans. But we assign behaviors to pretty much anything and we express our appreciation of the c

Morning Aspens
This artwork is fairly simple design wise. Balance is all over, per natures own ideal. There is a dampness in the forest around aspen early in the morning, before the sun creeps in to dry and warm the leaves, branches, and undergrowth. The tall trunks swaying with the resonance below ground. Small flowers spread their damp petals, the birds beginning to chirp. Yes, there are birds in the woods, and in the art too, just not that visible, I barely painted them in. Greens mean h

Creative Minds
I like to paint about every subject. Not everyone appreciates the ideas, but I paint sometimes to record what is going on around me in the world. Not in agreement or disagreement, but as a record of being in the midst of what is going on. A recognition of facts. I like to present them in a beautiful way even if the subject is not pretty to others. You may interpret this artwork differently than why I painted it, and really, there is an intent there for that. And I have an acc

Textile Pattern: Craft Maximalism Chicken Love1
Let's shake it up a little bit with a look at my textile patterns, specifically Chicken Love1. Textile Pattern: Chicken Love1 by Cecile Grace Charles on Spoonflower. All of my patterns are inspired by my own art. Often I use an existing artwork to format a textile design. This is what I have done here. I work in several different software programs, the simple ones are Photoshop and Affinity. The commercial computers an

Primariorial
Yes, it is a made up word. Primary colors, and primorial put together makes the title. Primariorial artwork by Cecile Grace Charles Primary colors blended together in my dash and dot style. The style is reminiscent of the Pointillism style. Although, Pointilillisme is now considered applying small dots or dashes of color to create and image. Historically, the dashes and dots were much much larger because the canvases were normally 8 feet tall by 6 fe

Bright Aspen
Bright Aspen artwork by Cecile Grace Charles I do a lot of impressionism when I paint trees. I like bright colors, but I do also do more muted artworks. In this case though I was inspired by a piece of jewelry a friend of mine was wearing. The neckace was full of stones in all the colors you see here in this artwork. The metal was purple and white enameled. For some reason it reminded me of aspen trees. So I painted what I was seeing in my head. The tree references ar

Lakeside Cove
Lakeside Cove artwork by Cecile Grace Charles This is a wonderful shoreline sunset image of a lake cove near my home on Lake Spokane, formerly called Long Lake. This is past the little town of Tumtum, WA. The artwork is all about the relationship to the sky.. On canvas, I have captured that low light that happens near dusk that makes the trees glow. This is the view from a boat. The dashes in this artwork are a shorter version of the longer strokes in ot

Marefire
Marefire artwork by Cecile Grace Charles I love horses. I love a lot of things but I love horses a bit more. Over the years I have had many moments with horses. Race horses, ponies, miniature horses, my friend owns twenty of them. There are so many different breeds. I am known in some horse circles for painting several breeds. I am very partial to Fjords, quarter horses, Frisian, are my favorites. Marefire is about a horse I know. I get to visit he

From the Moss
When you look at this piece you might say, “That is so simple, I could do that”, well, yes you could. But it would not look like this because there is more to this than meets the eye, for it is intended for the mind. The job of the artist is to understand the meaning of color, the placement of color as well as inserting any object that finishes the story. Firstly, that is not the sun or the moon, that is the circle of life in the background. It is however, the energy of the
