Trailers

So far, Bandai Namco has released several official trailers for Tekken 8, showcasing some of the characters, stages, and gameplay elements. The first trailer was revealed at The Game Awards 2022, featuring a cinematic showdown between Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima in a city-shattering face-off. The trailer also teased the return of Jun Kazama, Jin's mother and Kazuya's former lover, who has been absent from the series since Tekken 2.

The second trailer was released in February 2023, highlighting some of the gameplay mechanics such as the Heat System, which allows players to enter a powerful state that enhances their attacks and abilities. The trailer also showed some of the confirmed characters such as Nina Williams, Paul Phoenix, Marshall Law, King, Lars Alexandersson, Jack-8, Ling Xiaoyu, Leroy Smith, Asuka Kazama, Lili, Hwoarang, Bryan Fury, Claudio Serafino.

The most recent trailer was uploaded in June 2023, announcing a closed network test that will take place in July 2023 for selected players who register online. The trailer also revealed some new gameplay footage and a new character: Jun Kazama herself. Jun looks stunning in her updated design and seems to have a graceful fighting style that incorporates martial arts and spiritual energy.

Roster

Tekken 8's roster currently consists of 14 confirmed characters, each with their own unique fighting style and moves. Here is a brief overview of each character:

Jin Kazama: The protagonist of Tekken 8 and the son of Kazuya Mishima and Jun Kazama. He seeks to end the devil bloodline by killing his father. He uses karate as his fighting style.

Kazuya Mishima: The antagonist of Tek ken 8 and the son of Heihachi Mishima and Kazumi Mishima. He seeks to destroy Jin and take over the world with his devil powers. He uses Mishima-style karate as his fighting style.

Jun Kazama: A new character in Tekken 8 and the mother of Jin Kazama and the former lover of Kazuya Mishima. She was presumed dead after being attacked by Ogre in Tekken 3, but she has returned with a mysterious purpose. She uses Kazama-style martial arts as her fighting style.

Nina Williams: A cold-blooded assassin and the older sister of Anna Williams. She works as a bodyguard for Jin Kazama and has a rivalry with Kazuya Mishima. She uses aikido and koppojutsu as her fighting style.

Paul Phoenix: A hot-headed biker and martial artist who claims to be the strongest fighter in the universe. He is a longtime friend and rival of Marshall Law and Kazuya Mishima. He uses judo and karate as his fighting style.

Marshall Law: A legendary martial artist and the father of Forest Law. He runs a dojo in San Francisco and teaches jeet kune do, the fighting style of his idol Bruce Lee.

King: A masked wrestler and the successor of the original King, who was killed by Ogre. He fights for justice and supports an orphanage in Mexico. He uses wrestling and lucha libre as his fighting style.

Lars Alexandersson: A former soldier and the illegitimate son of Heihachi Mishima. He leads a rebel army against the Mishima Zaibatsu and G Corporation, the two warring factions that control the world. He uses a hybrid of karate and military combat as his fighting style.

Jack-8: A humanoid robot and the latest model of the Jack series. He was created by G Corporation as a weapon against the Mishima Zaibatsu, but he developed a sense of self-awareness and free will. He uses brute strength and heavy weapons as his fighting style.

Ling Xiaoyu: A cheerful and energetic girl who dreams of building an amusement park with Jin Kazama. She is a student at Mishima Polytechnic High School and a friend of Panda, her pet bear. She uses baguazhang and piguaquan as her fighting style.

Leroy Smith: A new character in Tekken 7 and Tekken 8. He is a master of wing chun who lost his family and home in a gang war in New York 50 years ago. He returned to seek revenge with his dog Sugar and his cane sword. He uses wing chun and cane sword techniques as his fighting style.

Asuka Kazama: A tomboyish girl who is the cousin of Jin Kazama and the niece of Jun Kazama. She is a vigilante who fights against bullies and criminals in Osaka, Japan. She uses Kazama-style martial arts as her fighting style.

Lili: A wealthy and spoiled girl who is the daughter of a Monaco oil magnate. She loves fighting for fun and has a rivalry with Asuka Kazama. She uses street fighting and ballet moves as her fighting style.

Hwoarang: A rebellious taekwondo practitioner who is the student of Baek Doo San. He has a rivalry with Jin Kazama and seeks to defeat him in a fair fight. He uses taekwondo as his fighting style.

Bryan Fury: A ruthless cyborg who was once a soldier in the International Police Organization (IPO). He was revived by Dr. Abel, a rival of Dr. Bosconovitch, who implanted him with a perpetual generator that makes him immortal. He uses kickboxing as his fighting style.

Claudio Serafino: A new character in Tekken 7 and Tekken 8. He is a member of the Sirius Marksmen, a secret society that fights against the devil gene. He has a mysterious power that allows him to use light-based attacks. He uses Sirius-style exorcism sorcery as his fighting style.

Gameplay

Tekken 8's gameplay is similar to previous games in the series, but with some new additions and improvements. The game features 3D graphics, realistic physics, dynamic stages, interactive objects, customizable characters, online modes, story mode, arcade mode, practice mode, treasure battle mode, tournament mode, gallery mode, jukebox mode, and more. The game also introduces a new gameplay feature called the Heat System, which is a meter that fills up as the player attacks or gets hit by the opponent. When the meter is full, the player can activate Heat Mode, which grants them enhanced speed, power, and defense for a limited time. Heat Mode also allows the player to perform Heat Moves, which are special attacks that deal massive damage and can break through the opponent's guard. Heat Moves can be executed by pressing a specific button combination or by using the right analog stick.

Tekken 8 also retains some of the gameplay elements from Tekken 7, such as Rage Arts, Rage Drives, Power Crushes, and Wall Bounces. Rage Arts are cinematic super moves that can be performed when the player's health is low, dealing a large amount of damage to the opponent. Rage Drives are enhanced versions of certain moves that can be performed when the player's health is low, granting them additional effects or follow-ups. Power Crushes are moves that can absorb the opponent's attacks and continue with their own, at the cost of some health. Wall Bounces are moves that can send the opponent flying towards the wall, allowing for more combo opportunities.
